Clarithromycin is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic. Chemically it is 6-0 methylerythromycin. Like other macrolides, clarithromycin binds to the 50S subunit of the 70S ribosome, thereby blocking RNA-mediated bacterial protein synthesis.
