Ramipril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that is indicated in the management of hypertension. Ramipril is also used to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke, which are included WHO’s top ten causes of death worldwide.
Ramipril works by inhibiting angiotensin-converting enzyme and decreases angiotensin II formation to lower blood pressure.
When considering factors such as increased ejection fraction, stroke volume, and decreasing mean arterial pressure, studies have shown that Ramipril offers a better advantage to Lisinopril, and Ramipril is more tolerable than other ACE inhibitors, as it is less likely to cause side effects like angioedema, hypokalemia, and cough.
