• A carbaperiem antibiotic
• Broad-spectrum B-lactam antibiotic.
• Active against gram-positive, gram negative and anaerobic bacteria
• Binds to penicillin binding protein and disrupts bacterial cell wall integrity and
synthesis.
• Ropem is stable to dehydropeptidase-1 enzyme responsible for the degradation of some carbapenems.
• Proven efficiency in infections caused by extended Spectrum Beta Lactaronase (ESBL) producing bacteria.
• meropenem has a lower degree of neurotoxicity
• Less likely to cause seizures at high doses.
• Useful in the treatment of infections in the central nervous system (CNS)
• Ropem is used in the treatment of injections like meningitis, pneumonia, Intra-abdominal injections, and complicated skin/ skin structure injections.
